The campaign, spearheaded by veteran retailer Norman Esslemont, will see experienced lawyer Alasdair Sutherland take Aberdeen City Council to task in a bid to undo the much-maligned traffic measures.

Last week, the crowdfunder smashed through its initial £35,000 target, and its now aiming for a new, extended goal of £49,000 in case legal costs go up.

Business owners and the public alike have rallied around the cause, now having donated £39,040, with a month still to go before the extended deadline.

Mr Esslemont commented: "Good to see continued steady support coming in. So please keep passing the link on to potential supporters."
